The Marketing Coordinator is dedicated to promoting area businesses, local attractions, outdoor recreation opportunities, and community events for residents and visitors alike. This position supports economic development by utilizing digital platforms, creating promotional materials, and coordinating displays in a trailhead building setting to support business attraction initiatives to boost local economic vitality.
Key Responsibilities:

1. On-Site Marketing & Guest Experience (Trailhead Building)

  • Coordinate and update in-person displays, digital signage, and brochures within the trailhead building to showcase local businesses, trails, and events.
  • Act as a welcoming, knowledgeable point of contact, providing information on local amenities and businesses.
  • Keep business directories and promotional materials in the trailhead building organized and up

to date.

2. Digital & Social Media Promotion

  • Create, curate, and schedule engaging content for social media platforms highlighting local businesses, "things to do," and user-generated content from the trail.
  • Update and assist with maintenance of website pages and local business directory.
  • Update and maintain content on the Discover Tioga mobile app (points of interest, business highlights, event listings, opportunities).

3. Small Business Support & E-Updates

  • Develop and distribute regular e-newsletters to subscribers (residents and visitors) highlighting upcoming events, business spotlights, and new recreational opportunities.
  • Proactively engage with local business owners to gather information on businesses, promotions, events, or new offerings to include in marketing channels.
  • Identify opportunities for cooperative marketing campaigns to drive foot traffic to Tioga County businesses.

4. Event Promotion & Outreach

  • Promote, and sometimes assist with, local events and community initiatives hosted at the trailhead or in the surrounding area.
  • Photograph and video local businesses and attractions for use in promotional materials.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, tourism management, or a related field (or 3+ years of equivalent experience).
  • Experience in social media management, website content management, and basic graphic design (Canva/Adobe Creative Cloud).
  • Strong, engaging writing skills and the ability to craft compelling narratives about local businesses and outdoor recreation.
  • Experience with mobile app content management is a plus.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including an occasional evening or weekend event.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for community development and local business success.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong networking skills.
  • Proficient in various computer programs, on-line and social media platforms.
  • Vehicle, valid driver's license, and insurance.
