Marketing Copywriter

The Marketing Copywriter develops compelling and engaging content that supports the institution’s strategic marketing objectives, particularly those related to undergraduate and graduate student recruitment. This role requires a strong writer and storyteller who can adapt their style and tone to various platforms and audiences while maintaining brand consistency.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Marketing Copywriter collaborates with the marketing and admissions teams to provide writing and editing support for a variety of channels and materials, including advertising, email communications, print collateral, and digital content. The Marketing Copywriter must possess excellent editorial, copywriting, and proofreading skills to support the Office of Admissions and Marketing in increasing enrollment and elevating UNE’s brand across audiences.
The Marketing Copywriter also supports and collaborates with team members as needed and participates in the creative and editorial calendar process, ensuring the development of effective, engaging content aligned with enrollment priorities. They contribute ideas that enhance the UNE brand, maximize return on investment, and help the institution stand out in the competitive higher-education marketing space.

Responsibilities
  • Write clear, persuasive, and engaging copy for a wide array of marketing materials, including websites, digital ads, email campaigns, videos, and print collateral.
  • Contribute to content strategy development by defining how brand pillars are conveyed across marketing channels, including developing campaign concepts, identifying storytelling opportunities, and creating strategic content calendars.
  • Collaborate with marketing strategists, designers, and other stakeholders to develop and execute integrated marketing campaigns that support recruitment, retention, and brand awareness.
  • Research and understand target audiences—including prospective students, families, current students, alumni, donors, and internal audiences—to craft relevant and effective messaging.
  • Optimize digital content for search engines (SEO) and ensure accessibility (ADA compliance) to maximize reach and engagement.
  • Ensure all written content adheres to the institution’s brand guidelines, messaging strategy, and editorial standards.
  • Conduct interviews with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to gather insights and develop compelling stories aligned with institutional goals.
  • Proofread and edit materials to ensure accuracy, clarity, grammar, and overall quality.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including admissions, athletics, student services, designers, photographers, and other marketing colleagues, to create cohesive and effective marketing materials.
  • Manage multiple writing projects and deadlines, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with project objectives.
  • Perform other marketing and editorial duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Writing, Liberal Studies, or a related field, with a minimum of 5–7 years of professional experience in writing, editing, journalism, or communications, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Experience in enrollment marketing is desirable.
  • Experience with digital marketing best practices, including SEO, content management systems (CMS), and marketing automation tools.
  • Experience with analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) to inform content strategy.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in higher education and non-profits.
  • High-level writing ability, both creative and editorial, across a broad range of media.
  • Impeccable knowledge of grammar and AP style.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a creative team with a positive attitude and strong work ethic, as well as independently under deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, multi-task environment, with the ability to switch gears and reprioritize quickly.
  • High level of discretion.
  • Highly self-motivated and proactive.
