Marketing Manager

Principal Function:The Marketing Manager is responsible for the coordination and execution of the Zoo’s marketing, communications, public relations, and fundraising initiatives. This role blends strategic oversight with hands-on implementation, ensuring campaigns are creative, effective, and mission driven. While final marketing strategy oversight remains with the Executive Director, this position manages the day-to-day work that drives audience engagement and support. The Marketing Manager must be available to work occasional evenings and weekends.

The Marketing Manager must believe in and support the Zoo’s mission and organizational culture and be a collaborative, results-driven member of the zoo’s team.

Principal Duties

Marketing, Communications & Public Relations

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop an annual marketing and communications plan aligned with organizational strategic and operational goals.
  • Implement marketing campaigns and tactics across all channels, including website, email, social media, print, television, and digital advertising.
  • Serve as primary content creator, including writing, editing, and designing graphics and promotional materials, in collaboration with other zoo departments.
  • Manage the organization’s social media presence, Instagram, Facebook Tiktok.
  • Identify and develop compelling stories and pitches for media.
  • Coordinate media relations, including responding to inquiries, building relationships with media contacts, and preparing staff for interviews.
  • Serve as website administrator, ensuring accurate, current, and engaging content.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all communications and platforms.
  • Conduct and analyze market research, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and prepare regular marketing performance reports.
  • Manage promotional materials and onsite marketing displays.

Assist with planning and execution of fundraising campaigns, appeals, and special events. Assist the Executive Director with oversight of donor communications, stewardship efforts, and recognition programs.

Administrative

  • Maintain awareness of the marketing budget and ensure activities adhere to established financial parameters.
  • Lead and mentor any marketing support staff, interns, or volunteers.
  • Work collaboratively across departments to align marketing efforts with program and operational needs.
  • Represent the organization at community and networking events to build relationships and enhance visibility.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience & License Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered in place of a degree.

Skill and Ability Requirements:

  • Strong creative, writing, and storytelling abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media platforms.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to set up tables, chairs, boxes of supplies, and other necessary equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Close vision is required to check identifications, membership cards, coupon types, etc. and computer and register buttons and screens. Distance vision is necessary for adequate crowd control.

Pay: $33,280.00 - $41,600.00 per year
