Marketing Manager, Owned Media

You’ll be joining a small, high-ownership marketing team as the second full-time marketing hire. This is a builder role, ideal for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and executing, not just planning. You’ll help design programs and then bring them to life, working closely with leadership, agencies, and tutors.

We’re looking for an ambitious marketer to own two of our most important owned-media growth initiatives. This role sits at the intersection of SEO, content, and community-led growth. You’ll drive our local search visibility and build a thriving community of tutor content creators. You’ll own our local SEO strategy across dozens of markets, partner with our agency to scale programmatic content, and activate our tutor network to create authentic content that drives both engagement and organic growth.

This role exists to help Grade Potential win in local discovery and build authentic trust through tutor voices.

Responsibilities

Tutor Community & Content

  • Build and activate a content creator community from our tutor base, generating authentic educational content across YouTube, Instagram, Reddit, and TikTok
  • Develop strategy and playbook for tutor-generated content that drives both social engagement and SEO value (backlinks, brand mentions, topical authority)
  • Launch and facilitate regular community activities, monthly calls, content challenges, and best-practice sharing
  • Create recognition and incentive programs that reward top contributors and drive sustained participation
  • Manage brand social channels (may include contractor support) to amplify tutor and customer stories

Website Management

  • Own website content strategy, determining what content gets featured on homepage and key landing pages
  • Coordinate website updates with development team or agency, prioritizing changes based on conversion impact
  • Monitor site performance and identify optimization opportunities

Local & Programmatic SEO

  • Drive local search strategy and performance, owning visibility goals in Google Local Pack across all markets
  • Identify high-opportunity markets for GMB expansion, scale and optimize Google Business Profile management, ensuring consistent, high-impact configurations
  • Serve as primary liaison with SEO agency for local landing page optimization, providing content requirements, performance data, and strategic direction
  • Design review generation strategy and success metrics; coordinate cross-functional implementation with tech, operations, and customer success teams
  • Support our SEO agency and enable programmatic page creation by coordinating internal resources (tutor data, curriculum information) with agency technical execution

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in digital marketing, SEO, content marketing, community management, or related field
  • Working knowledge of SEO fundamentals and Google Business Profile management
  • Experience building something from scratch, a community, content program, social presence, or marketing initiative where you owned strategy and execution
  • Strong project management and coordination skills, comfortable juggling multiple workstreams and keeping external partners on track
  • Excellent written communication and comfort translating goals into clear briefs or requirements for agencies or developers
  • Self-directed learner who thrives with autonomy and figures things out through research, experimentation, and asking good questions
  • Comfortable with data and analytics tools (Google Analytics, spreadsheets, social insights) to measure what’s working
  • Genuine interest in education and empowering tutors and educators

This role combines strategic planning, ongoing cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on execution. Because this role involves community leadership and content collaboration with tutors, strong communication skills and comfort communicating on camera are important.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
