The City of Maryland Heights seeks a full-time Marketing/Communications Specialist. This position will work under the supervision of the Communications Manager. The general purpose of this Communications Specialist position is to perform technical and creative work in photography, videography, and digital media production in order to provide professional visual content for the residents, businesses, elected officials, and general public of Maryland Heights.

PAY RANGE: $60,787-$77,486

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Capture high-quality photographs of City programs, facilities, events, and staff for use in reports, publications, presentations, newsletters, social media, and other communication platforms.
• Edit, organize, and maintain the City’s photo library, ensuring files are properly cataloged and available to staff across departments.
• Manage and update the City’s Flickr account to serve as an access point for photographs available to the general public.
• Film, edit, and produce long-form and short-form video content for multiple platforms, including social media, the City’s website, presentations, and YouTube.
• Incorporate graphic design, motion graphics, and effects into videos to enhance production value and audience engagement.
• Manage the City’s YouTube channel.
• Collaborate with staff across departments to understand their visual communication needs and develop creative solutions.
• Provide photography and videography support at City events, often during evenings or weekends as required, including operating drones for aerial content in compliance with FAA regulations.
• Stay current with trends, tools, and techniques in digital media, photography, videography, and social media.
• Support the Communications Division with additional duties such as graphic design, marketing materials, and other projects as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Photography, Film/Video Production, Marketing, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of three years of professional experience in photography, videography, and digital content creation.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
• Strong knowledge of DSLR and mirrorless camera systems, video cameras, lighting setups, audio recording equipment, and other related technology.
• Ability to edit and produce videos for a variety of platforms, including integration of titles, transitions, effects, and sound design.
• Knowledge and experience with drone operation. FAA Part 107 certification preferred or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
• Experience managing and organizing large libraries of digital media.
• Strong creative vision and ability to tell compelling stories through visual media.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with staff, residents, and outside organizations.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.

Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or holidays for coverage of events, as needed.
