Masjid Caretaker

Role Description:

To ensure the mosque premises are properly maintained clean. The Masjid Cleaner/ caretaker is responsible for opening and closing the mosque according to prayer times, reporting maintenance or facility issues, and supporting in keeping the mosque environment safe and welcoming. The role requires ensuring a neat, peaceful, and welcoming environment for visitors while adhering to Islamic etiquette and respect for the sanctity of the Masjid.

Key Tasks:

Working Hours:

• Aligned with daily prayer times, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Requirements:

• Open and close the mosque on time for all daily prayers.
• Ensure cleanliness of prayer areas, ablution areas, and surrounding premises (indoors & outdoors).
• Report any maintenance or facility issues (electrical, plumbing, cleaning, air conditioning, etc.) to management promptly.
• Monitor supplies such as cleaning materials.
• Ensure lights, air conditioning, and sound systems are turned on/off as required.
• Support in setting up for Friday prayers, Ramadan, and special events.
• Maintain respectful behavior and support visitors with basic guidance or information.
• Always respect the sanctity of the Masjid and follow proper etiquette while working.
• Upholds exceptional quality and safety standards in all maintenance activities.

Compliance & Safety Awareness :

• Strictly follows legal, regulatory, and organizational safety protocols for property management.
• Ensure compliance with safety, security, and hygiene standards.

Qualifications:

• Minimum high school education (preferred)
• Basic knowledge of Arabic or English for communication
• Previous experience as a cleaner (experience in mosques/ religious places preferred).
• Flexible to work weekends, evenings, and during special occasions (Ramadan, Eid, etc.)
• Basic understanding of mosque etiquette and prayer times
• Reliable, punctual, and respectful demeanour
• Commitment to impeccable cleanliness
• Ability to report issues clearly
• Physically fit to handle cleaning duties
• Respectful, disciplined, and mindful of Islamic practices and values

Skills required:

• Autonomous: Operates independently with minimal supervision, consistently managing duties and proactively addressing maintenance requirements.
• Manual Proficiency: Demonstrates strong hands-on abilities, efficiently executing repairs and maintenance with diverse tools and techniques.
• Resourcefulness: Applies creative problem-solving using available resources to deliver effective maintenance solutions under constraints.
• Adaptability: Effectively manages shifting priorities, emergencies, and unforeseen maintenance challenges.
