Material Engineer

Roles & responsibilities

  • Perform material selection and specification in line with project requirements
  • Ensure compliance with international standards such as ASTM International, ASME, NACE International, and API, along with QatarEnergy specifications
  • Conduct corrosion assessments, failure analysis, and material degradation studies
  • Review and approve Material Requisitions (MRs), Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs), and vendor documents
  • Coordinate directly with clients for approvals and technical clarifications
  • Support procurement, fabrication, and construction phases with technical inputs
  • Review coating systems, cathodic protection, and insulation specifications suitable for Qatar’s environmental conditions
  • Participate in HAZOP, risk assessments, and integrity management program.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate material solutions into product designs, ensuring compatibility and performance.
  • Conduct failure analysis on materials to determine the root cause of issues and recommend improvements or alternatives.

Desired candidate profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degrees are preferred for specialized roles.
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in materials engineering, particularly in sectors like Oil & Gas.
  • Experience with QatarEnergy or similar Clients
  • Strong knowledge of corrosion, material selection, and sour service
  • Strong English communication and client-handling skills
  • Ability to effectively engage with diverse teams
