Material Engineer (Landscape)

Core Responsibilities

  • Material Selection & Approval: Reviewing and approving technical submittals, samples, and mock-ups for hardscape (pavers, stone) and softscape (soil, fertilizer) materials.
  • QA/QC Site & System Monitoring: Conducting field inspections to verify materials upon delivery, ensuring proper storage, and monitoring installation to prevent defects.
  • Laboratory & Field Testing: Supervising and analyzing tests for soil fertility, salinity, pH, concrete strength, and irrigation system pressure.
  • Documentation: Maintaining material logs, issuing Material Inspection Requests (MIRs), and preparing Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for substandard materials.
  • Sustainability Compliance: Promoting the use of eco-friendly, sustainable materials and reviewing environmental product declarations (EPDs) in line with UAE green building regulations.

Key Materials Managed

  • Hardscape: Interlocking pavers, kerbstones, natural stone cladding, asphalt, concrete, timber, WPC, and composite decking.
  • Softscape: Topsoil, planting soil, soil conditioners, and fertilizers.
  • Irrigation & Drainage: HDPE/uPVC pipes, valves, controllers, and drainage cells.
  • Site Amenities: Playground safety surfacing, fencing, pergolas, and gazebos.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Materials Engineering.
  • Experience: 3–10+ years of experience in landscaping, infrastructure, or building projects within the UAE/GCC region.
  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of ASTM/BS standards, AutoCAD, and material testing procedures.
  • Certifications: Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL) approval is often preferred.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication skills (often requiring English and sometimes Arabic) for coordination with contractors, consultants, and municipal authorities.
