MATERIALS MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR

POSITION SUMMARY

The position of Materials Management Coordinator for the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) is one of moderate responsibility. The Materials Management Coordinator directly reports to and works under, the direction of the Materials Management Manager. He/She will be responsible for ordering and maintaining adequate inventory of organ, tissue, eye, print shop and office supplies. Maintenance of adequate inventory supplies and equipment is essential to assure the successful recovery of organs, tissue and eyes for transplantation. He/She is responsible for receiving all supplies at the loading dock and may have to off-load supplies from the delivery trucks and moving supplies between the garage and condensed storage area. He/She will assist in receiving and identifying donor bodies received from various livery services. He/She is responsible for daily re-stocking and maintaining adequate inventory before and after organ, tissue and eye recoveries in the operating room suites, recovery supply room and prep rooms. He/She is responsible for cleaning, set-up and sterilization of all organ, tissue and eye recovery instruments and supplies according to CRCST standards and ensuring compliance with Food and Drug Administration cGTPand AATB standards. On an as needed basis he/she will conduct the packaging and shipping of recovered tissue to the appropriate tissue banks. He/She is directly responsible for cleaning, daily monitoring and maintaining all materials management area equipment including the freezers and refrigerators and ensuring compliance with EBAA, AATB, UNOS (OPTN) and any other regulatory body governed by CORE. He/She is responsible for assuring the efficiency of supply cost for all ordered materials and obtaining lowest cost bids. He/She will also be expected to actively participate on CORE committees.

He/She must by OSHA trained. He/She must be able to operate a Sterrad Sterilizer, Steris Steam Autoclave, Steris Disinfector and maintain sterility of surgical supplies and equipment. He/She will be responsible for participating in promoting a safe-proof, injury-free, fire-safe work area, free of violence. He/She is responsible for promotion of a positive work environment that promotes CORE values and assures the success of the operations of CORE.

He/ She may be asked to participate in the transportation and delivery of specimens, tissues, grafts, corneas and organs for transplantation between CORE, transplant centers and local airports. He/ She will be responsible to assist the transportation specialist in the maintenance of the CORE vehicles i.e. pick up and drop off of vehicles. He/ She is responsible for assisting the transportation specialist in the upkeep of the walkways and shipping/receiving area of the facility, i.e. snow removal, salting.

He/She will have a thorough knowledge of CORE Policy and Procedures and demonstrate/maintain competency on all job related functions.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The Materials Management Coordinator for the Center for Organ Recovery & Education will be responsible for all issues related to stocking and maintaining recovery equipment and supplies in a cost-efficient and orderly fashion. He/She will be responsible for coordinating and maintaining the organization of storeroom supplies and rotation of stock. He/she will be responsible for unloading supplies at the warehouse dock area and distributing supplies to the appropriate departments and storage areas. He/She will be responsible for maintaining an accurate inventory of all supplies at all times.

He/She will be responsible for the sterile processing of all equipment including accurately assembling upper/lower trays, heart trays, skin trays, perfusion trays, vein instrumentation, organ trays, eye instrumentation, and various research supplies. He/she will make up customized boxes for kidneys, pancreas, bladders and prostates and any others as needed. He/She will monitor the disposition of specimens for discard.

He/She may be assigned, from time to time, other job-related functions as deemed necessary by the, COOor President/CEO.

He/ She is responsible for knowing CORE’s policy as it relates to the safe handling and transportation of human tissues utilizing OSHA standards.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent for the position of Material Management Coordinator should have some type of medical background with at least one-year experience in an operating room or central sterile environment. He/She must have a thorough knowledge of sterile techniques and surgical instrumentation. He/She must have a thorough knowledge of CRSCT guidelines as they relate to decontamination and sterilization of operating room instrumentation and supplies and quality control of the system. He/She must have strong communication skills, critical thinking skills and good independent judgment. He/She must have the ability to get along with all types of individuals and should possess excellent verbal communication skills. He/She must have strong literary skills. He/She must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work. He/She must have demonstrated a professional commitment and maintaining current knowledge of the central sterile process and supply needs of the organ, tissue and eye industry. He/ She must have a clean driving record, a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, and be insurable under CORE’s insurance policy. He/She must complete an extensive six (6) – month training period which results in a reasonable outcome. He/She should be CRCST certified or eligible to become certified within 1-year of hire. He/She must obtain CRCST certification within 1-year of hire.

He/ She must be able to lift and carry sixty (60) pounds or more. He/ She must be willing to work a flexible schedule that will allow for departmental coverage 7 days a week. He/ She must have good manual dexterity and visual acuity. He/She must be able to routinely lift 60 pounds in order to move recovery supplies within the facility. He/She must be willing and able to work weekends and holidays. He/ She shall demonstrate a commitment to CORE and its values and mission.

DEGREE OF JOB DIFFICULTY

The degree of difficulty falls into the moderate range. Inadvertent errors will lead to a disruption in the successful operation of post-mortem recovery. Failure to follow policies and procedures could result in the loss of tissue, eyes or organs for transplantation.
