SFCC provides a high-quality, geographically, financially and emotionally accessible education to more than 4,000 students who range from traditional college-age students to adult learners.

The college offers associate of arts, associate of fine arts, associate of science and associate of applied science degrees, professional and skills certificates, and noncredit courses and programs, and workforce development training in a 14-county area in central Missouri with locations in Sedalia, Boonville, Clinton, Lake of the Ozarks, Jefferson City, Whiteman Air Force Base, and online.

Position Purpose:
This full-time position (based on the Sedalia campus) offers tutoring options to students designed to assist them with our variety of educational programs and services, maintains SFCC's online Math Self-Help Resources, instructs workshops, and instruct up to 18 credit hours within a budgeted year (up to 6 credit hours each for the fall, spring and summer semesters). Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides individual and group tutoring as well as additional instruction to students in Math (ability to assist in other subject areas ideal);
  • Assists students with understanding class assignments and related skills;
  • Reviews and studies subject materials that will be used to tutor students;
  • Creates and provides supplemental handouts to aid instruction;
  • Maintains SFCC’s online Math Self-Help resource links;
  • Teaches math classes (up to 18 hours per academic year at discretion of dean and associate dean based on qualifications and need).
  • Works collaboratively with the math department and attends its departmental and division meetings.
  • A willingness to take on additional responsibility and work collaboratively with others in the college
  • Assist with closing and operations of SFCC library on scheduled or as needed basis
  • Work with students in variety of formats including online and on campus
  • Other duties as deemed necessary for the function of the college.

Required Qualifications:
Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in math or related field (Master’s degree or minimum of 18 graduate hours in Math preferred)
  • Two years’ experience in teaching and/or tutoring.

Skills:
  • Knowledge of principles and methods of tutoring and instruction for individuals and groups.
  • Familiar with all areas of mathematics.
  • Ability to identify the educational needs of others, develop tutoring or training programs or classes, and teach or instruct others.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas effectively so others will understand.
  • Work independently.
  • A willingness to take on additional responsibility and work collaboratively
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:
  • Work involves sedentary to light work in an office setting.
  • There is frequent sitting, with walking, standing and stooping occasionally required.
  • There is an occasional need to lift objects (up to 10 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.

Public School Retirement System Public Education Employee Retirement (PSRS) – Salaried Employees:

Leave Benefits
There is no waiting period to begin using accrued sick or vacation time.

Vacation Accrual- Full-time Employees:
  • 4 hours per pay period: 0–5 years
  • 5 hours per pay period: 6–15 years
  • 6 hours per pay period: 16+ years
  • Maximum accrual cap: 160 hours

  • Faculty are not eligible for vacation due to built-in contractual time off but have access to 2 personal days/year.

Sick Leave Accrual- Full-time Employees:
  • 5 hours per pay period for all employees
  • Maximum accrual cap: 1,040 hours
