Duties and Responsibilities


  • Operates the airport fleet repair shop; services and repairs all airport vehicles including many specialized pieces of equipment including snowplows, snow blowers, sprayers, public safety vehicles, sand spreaders, mowers, tractors, and many other items, both small and large;
  • Prepares and recommends annual fleet repair budget
  • Experience with A/C systems and BUS diagnostics skills
  • Fabricates special equipment
  • Performs preventive maintenance on all vehicles on a scheduled basis;
  • Installs accessory equipment oversee and directs assigned personnel;
  • Maintains tool and work areas in a clean and orderly condition;
  • Performs duties in accordance with the airport's safety rules and operating regulations and practices;
  • Maintain complete parts inventory’ ordering of materials and supplies;
  • Reports irregularities and abnormal conditions;
  • Assists in the training of other employees;
  • Assists employees of equal or higher classification;
  • Performs general airport maintenance,
  • Operates snow removal equipment and perform snow removal duties as required.
  • Keeps records, purchases, and stocks mission critical spare parts for the equipment used at the airport;
  • Create, maintain, and update a comprehensive preventive maintenance /m schedule for all airport equipment.
  • Provide input for long term vehicle replacement program to include end of life, replacement & acquisition of fleet vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities


  • Knowledge of and ability to repair and maintain gasoline and diesel engine heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
  • Ability to maintain records for vehicles, spare parts, maintenance schedules;
  • Ability to oversee the work of others;
  • Ability to learn airport operations related to on airfield driving and communications.
  • Knowledge of airport fire trucks operation, repair & regulations of operation.

Physical Requirements


Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects


Physical Activities


Climbing


Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.


Stooping/

Bending


Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles


Kneeling


Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.


Hand-arm Manipulation/Reaching


Manual control or manipulation of objects through hand and/or arm movements, which may or may not require continuous visual control


Standing


Particularly for sustained periods of time


Walking


Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.


Pushing


Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.


Pulling


Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.


Lifting


Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.


Repetitive Motions


Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.


Finger Manipulation


Making careful finger movements in various types of activities; picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling; usually hand and arm are not involved to any great extent.


Balancing


Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.


Crouching


Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.


Eye-hand/

Foot Coordination


The coordination of hand and/or foot movements where the movement must be coordinated with what is seen.


Grasping


Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.


Feeling


Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.


Talking


Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly

Experience and Education Requirements

High school equivalent education with at least 3 years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, including heavy-truck and equipment;

Position requires basic computer operations experience, including strong working knowledge of email, word processing and spreadsheet applications (Microsoft products desirable).


Special Requirements

  • Pass a pre-hire drug screen and random alcohol and drug testing
  • Must be able to obtain a FWACAA-issued AOA Driving Privileges
  • Pass federal fingerprint based criminal history background check
  • Available for recall during non duty hours for emergencies, snow removal or other required duties
  • Must have a valid Commercial Driver's License Class B or higher, or be able to obtain a Class B within 6 months.


The position is responsible for the skilled work in the preventive maintenance and repairs of all motor vehicle equipment; operates the fleet repair shop and all equipment associated with the fleet repair shop; performs federally mandated yearly certifications on airport firefighting apparatus.
