Company Description: John W. Stone Oil Distributor, LLC is the local leader in dockside, mid-streaming, and offshore fueling along the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge to Venice, Louisiana and into the Gulf of Mexico.

Position: Mechanic

Reports To: Mechanic Supervisor

Worksite: Gretna, Louisiana.

Work Schedule: 7am-5pm, Monday-Friday; on-call every other week for afterhours and weekend coverage.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair engines, gears, pumps, and air and hydraulic systems, including deep well pump units, PTOs, marine engines of all kinds (Detroit, Cummins, John Deere, Caterpillar, Mitsubishi, Kubota, etc.).
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units.
  • Reconditioning equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe work area.
  • Other duties that may be requested by Director, Supervisor or Executive Management as needed

Physical Requirements: All offers of employment are conditioned on passing a drug screen (a DOT test, and a non-DOT hair test) and a fit-for-duty physical examination.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1 year experience as a diesel mechanic in marine environment.
  • Must have your own tools necessary to perform essential job duties.
  • Driver’s License.
  • TWIC (Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to swim.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Vocational or technical training.
  • Specialized training or certification for Caterpillar and Mitsubishi engines.
  • Experience in the marine industry with tugs and barges.
