The Mechanical Designer, under the direction of the Mechanical Engineer, is responsible for initiating, developing and completing mechanical drawings from project inception through final construction documents. This role supports a variety of projects and ensures designs comply with applicable codes, standards and client-established criteria. Responsibilities include performing mechanical design calculations and developing HVAC, hydronics and piping system layouts. The Mechanical Designer prepares detailed plans, sections, details and schedules using Revit and/or AutoCAD and revises documents based on internal reviews, client feedback and permitting comments. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, self-motivated team player who manages priorities effectively, collaborates within a multidisciplinary MEP team and contributes to maintaining project quality, accuracy and schedules.

Minimum Requirements
-
Associate’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related field; equivalent work experience will be considered

5+ years of experience in mechanical design within an MEP consulting or engineering firm (HVAC systems, including ductwork and piping, sizing and drafting)

Proficiency in AutoCAD is required

Proficiency in Revit, preferred

Familiarity with applicable MEP-related building codes and regulations

Ability to perform basic mechanical design calculations and interpret engineering specifications

Experience coordinating HVAC equipment with vendors, preferred

Experience in Energy Modeling, preferred

LEED Documentation, preferred

Valid Texas Driver’s License with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and background check is required
Expectations

Prepares mechanical design drawings and construction documents from concept through final design.

Develops HVAC and piping system layouts in accordance with project requirements and codes.

Performs mechanical design calculations, including heating and cooling loads and ventilation requirements.

Selects mechanical equipment and systems based on project criteria, performance and efficiency goals.

Sizes ductwork, piping, pumps, fans and associated mechanical components.

Drafts plans, sections, details and schedules primarily using Revit, with occasional use of AutoCAD.

Ensures designs comply with applicable building codes, standards and local jurisdictional requirements.

Participates in internal quality control reviews.

Revises drawings based on internal reviews, client comments and permitting feedback.

During construction, prepares responses to Requests for Information (RFIs) for engineer review.

Conducts field visits and site observations to verify installation progress and design compliance.

Reviews submittals/shop drawings.

Assists with energy modeling data preparation and system performance documentation when required.

Maintains organized project files and drawing standards.

Manages assigned tasks to meet project schedules and deadlines.
