Mechanical Engineer
OVERALL SUMMARY
Performs functions to conduct research studies, develop technology, improve designs and evaluate new products. Maintains full responsibility for results in terms of cost, methods, and procedures. Conducts research, reviews and analyzes technical literature and stays current on related issues and technical data.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Review customer source control drawings, specification control drawings and other applicable specifications to determine requirements and/or feasibility of the components & products.
- Prepare preliminary design proposal(s).
- Interact with production personnel to define and solve manufacturing/design issues and implement cost reduction ideas with regard to our products.
- Perform liaison function between Engineering and all manufacturing operations for any related issues, problems or improvements.
- Work with the Quality & Customer Service Departments to define problem areas and implement product improvements based on customer repair/rejection concerns.
- Participate in engineering and general design review as required.
- Refine and complete designs after design review meetings.
- Prepare proposal documentation.
- Prepare technical data such as qualification test procedures, acceptance test procedures, reports, component maintenance manuals, etc.
- Interact with customers on engineering design and any questions/problems they may have.
- Provide technical support to Sales & other related functions.
- Interact with vendors concerning parts they supply or propose to supply to company.
- Coordinate as required with internal groups including purchasing, quality assurance, sales, production, accounting personnel, metal finishing, and assembly.
- Collaborate and work cooperatively with all department Engineers and designers to complete task assignments, projects and to satisfy overall department goals.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Proven competency with computer assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software.
- Competent use of AutoCAD Engineering drawing software.
- Competent use of Inventor and 3D Modeling software.
- Proficient use of (FEA)-Finite Element Analysis software, & ability to interpret results.
- Ability to manage complex product design & development projects from inception through to validated product launch in production.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
- Ability to write presentations and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
- Ability to interact in team environment including technical & shop personnel.
- Ability to comprehend and apply principles of calculus, modern algebra, and statistical theory.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- BS-Mechanical Engineering Degree
- Degree plan associated with heavy equipment manufacturing is a plus.
- Experience with new product development a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical office working conditions. Occasionally exposed to heat/cold, dust, noise, and welding fumes when working in plant.
