Mechanical Engineer – Steam & Thermal Systems Specialist (Field & Office Hybrid)
Department : Electromechanic
Modern Hamat Co. (Maintenance & Thermal Systems)
Job Type / Location : Riyadh
Hybrid role (Office + Client Sites)
Role Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer specialized in steam boilers, thermal systems, heat exchangers, calorifiers, steam networks, and industrial machinery.
This role requires a professional who can inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and engineer practical solutions for real-life site problems—where every case can be different and requires both technical depth and creative thinking.
The ideal candidate is known for integrity, strong technical judgment, and the ability to work independently while representing the company professionally on client sites.
Key Responsibilities
1) Site Visits & Technical Troubleshooting
- Conduct site inspections and technical assessments for steam/thermal systems.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to:
- Steam boilers (package boilers, steam generators, etc.)
- Calorifiers / hot water systems
- Heat exchangers and thermal equipment
- Steam distribution and condensate return systems
- Steam traps selection, installation evaluation, and performance troubleshooting
- Deliver corrective actions and recommendations based on actual site conditions.
2) Engineering Solutions & System Improvement
- Provide customized engineering solutions based on client operations and constraints, such as:
- Designing or improving PRV stations for production lines (e.g., food & beverage).
- Optimizing steam trap sets and condensate systems for hospitals and critical facilities.
- Identifying efficiency improvements, energy savings opportunities, and reliability upgrades.
- Think “out of the box” to develop practical and safe solutions when standard patterns don’t apply.
3) Critical Troubleshooting & System Diagnostics (Key Skill)
Troubleshoot and support boiler-room and steam-system operational issues across mechanical, combustion, control, and auxiliary equipment, including:
- Operational instability & shutdowns: frequent trips, alarms, lockouts, sequence/interlock faults, and intermittent performance issues.
- Combustion & firing performance (as applicable): ignition/flame-related issues, unstable firing, poor response to load changes, and basic combustion checks/optimization within safe operating limits.
- Hydraulic / steam-side problems: pressure fluctuations, water level instability, priming/foaming symptoms, steam quality issues, condensate back-up, water hammer indicators, and abnormal temperature/pressure behavior.
- Auxiliaries & mechanical components: feedwater systems, pumps, valves, PRVs, steam traps, strainers/filters, actuators, safety devices, and common leakage or vibration-related faults.
- Instrumentation & controls coordination: interpret signals, alarms, and trends; coordinate with electrical/control teams for PLC/BMS interfaces, sensors, actuators, and interlocks to reach the root cause.
- Root-cause analysis & reliability improvement: identify recurring failure patterns, propose corrective actions, recommend preventive measures, and document findings to reduce downtime and improve system reliability.
4) Documentation, Reporting & Office Tasks
- Prepare technical visit reports, condition assessments, and client recommendations.
- Develop BOQs and scopes of work for maintenance, repair, and upgrade projects.
- Review project documents and analyze system requirements.
- Communicate professionally via emails and meetings with clients and stakeholders.
5) Compliance & Safety
- Apply essential knowledge of international standards and safe practices relevant to steam and boilers.
- Ensure recommendations and site actions align with safety requirements and best engineering practice.
Qualifications & Requirements
Must-Have
- Proven strong experience in steam boilers and steam systems (hands-on troubleshooting is essential).
- Solid understanding of thermal systems, calorifiers, heat exchangers, and steam accessories.
- Strong competence in burner troubleshooting and boiler operational issues.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and piping schemes.
- Ability to drive and willingness to travel for site visits.
- High integrity, professional conduct, and client-facing communication skills.
Preferred
- Ability to create / design mechanical schemes (P&IDs, piping layouts, PRV station schematics).
- Knowledge of relevant international norms, procedures, and safety practices (boiler and steam systems).
- Experience in hospitals / hotels / factories environments, and working under operational constraints.
