Key Responsibilities
- Assist engineers in building and assembling prototypes of waste-to-energy equipment (reactors, shredders, conveyors, thermal units, etc.).
- Perform welding and metal fabrication, including:
- MIG/TIG/Arc welding (as applicable)
- Cutting, grinding, and finishing metal parts
- Fabricating frames, mounts, pipes, and machine components
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, CAD outputs, and assembly diagrams.
- Conduct mechanical fitting, installation, and alignment of motors, shafts, bearings, couplings, and thermal system components.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems and prototypes.
- Support testing and experimental setups, collect measurements, and assist with improvements based on test results.
- Work with workshop tools including drills, grinders, cutters, welders, and measurement instruments.
- Collaborate closely with engineers to provide feedback on manufacturability, design tweaks, and field issues.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workshop environment; follow all industrial safety and welding safety protocols.
- Manage inventory of parts, materials, and consumables used in fabrication and prototyping.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma/Certificate in Mechanical Technology, Mechanical Technician trade, Fabrication, or related field.
- Proven hands-on experience with welding (MIG/TIG/Arc) and metal fabrication.
- Strong skills in mechanical assembly, fitting, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and follow engineering instructions.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment.
- Understanding of basic mechanics, thermodynamics, and safety guidelines.
- A proactive mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Passion for climate tech, sustainability, and building physical systems that make a real difference.
