Mechanical Technician

Overview

The successful candidate will join the Facility Operations team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA’s Langley Research Center (LaRC). This position reports directly to the Facility Operations Manager.

All work will be performed with a high standard of quality and professionalism. All safety policies and procedures must be followed.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will join a team to safely, effectively, and efficiently operate and maintain mechanical systems in NASA LaRC wind tunnels, liquid nitrogen generation plant, and other facilities. Follow established safety policies and procedures and perform work in accordance with policies and procedures while maintaining a high standard of quality and workmanship in performance of all duties.

• Working knowledge of safety practices common to industry including FOD control and LOTO is beneficial.
• Experience with operation and maintenance of rotating machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic system, pumps, valves, cooling water systems, and production, transfer, and storage of cryogenic liquids is preferred.
• Perform preventive maintenance on, inspection of, and operate equipment per documented procedures.
• Must be able to read relevant technical drawings and specifications.
• Assembles wind tunnel models for testing; installs, routes, and calibrates instrumentation.
• Operates other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, man-lifts, and cranes.
• Must be able to climb ladders and steps, enter and work in confined spaces, lift up to a minimum of 35 lbs
• Willing to work all shifts and overtime.
• May be required to support alternate facilities as needed.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of college with courses in engineering, mathematics or science.
• four (4) years relevant experience
• Or any equivalent combination of relevant education/experience for a total of six (6) years.

Pay: $22.59 - $33.45 per hour
