Certified Medical Assistant – Neurology (Integrated Role)

Job Summary

VerityMD Neurology is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (MA) to support both clinical and administrative workflows in a busy outpatient neurology clinic. This role requires flexibility across patient rooming, medical scribing under direct physician supervision, chronic care support, phone triage, procedures, and front-desk coverage. All duties are performed within the California Medical Assistant scope of practice and under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Patient Care (Direct Supervision Required)

• Room patients and obtain vital signs
• Review and document medical history, medications, allergies, and chief concerns
• Assist with intake questionnaires and screening tools
• Act as a medical scribe during physician visits with real-time EHR documentation and provider verification
• Assist with in-office procedures as directed
• Provide physician-approved patient education and reinforce post-visit instructions

Care Coordination & Administrative Support

• Support Chronic Care Management documentation and outreach
• Prepare and transmit referrals to specialists, imaging centers, and therapy services
• Enter provider-directed orders into the EHR for physician review and signature
• Request, track, and organize outside medical records
• Perform pre-visit chart preparation to ensure completeness
• Assist with non-clinical forms (DMV, disability, work forms) for physician review

Office Operations & Team Support

• Answer and triage phone calls and patient messages
• Provide front desk coverage, including check-in, check-out, and scheduling
• Perform insurance verification and initiate prior authorizations under supervision
• Manage exam room and medical supply inventory
• Support billing workflows by identifying diagnoses and procedures for review

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program
• Current certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or NCMA)
• 1–2 years of outpatient clinical experience; neurology or specialty clinic experience preferred
• Proficiency with EHR systems (EPIC, Kareo, or similar)
• Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
• Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA, and OSHA standards
