Position Summary:

The Medical Assistant is a key member of the cardiology practice who helps provide an atmosphere of compassionate and quality care to patients and their families. The MA upholds the standards of professional conduct and performance. This includes ethical practice, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice and research, resource utilization, and environmental health. Adheres to all policies related to PHI and HIPAA privacy practices.

Working Conditions:

Qualifications:

· High School Graduate or GED: Required

· Registered/Certified Medical Assistant: Preferred

· BLS CPR certification: Required (within 90 days of hire)

· Minimum of 2 years of experience as Medical Assistant: Required

· Cardiology experience: Preferred

· Experience utilizing electronic medical record: Required - eClincialWorks (eCW) experience: Preferred

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Required

· Previous experience in front desk operations at a medical practice: Preferred

· Able to work in a fast-paced medical practice while maintaining a high level of professionalism

· Ability to work well with physicians, employees, patients, and referral sources

· In good physical and mental health

· Detail oriented, thorough, and exact

Specific Duties:

· Responsible for assisting in giving quality patient care to patients and in other areas as needed

  • Prepare charts for providers, prior to the appointment date and time
  • Maintain an orderly, efficient, and timely flow of patients
  • Greet patients and prepare them for the appointment

Specific Duties Continued:

  • Effectively utilize the EMR system (eCW) to streamline work tasks to eliminate duplicative work and improve operational efficiency
  • Utilize Microsoft Teams messaging system to communicate with other employees efficiently instead of leaving desk/work area
  • Follow established protocols for patient care and operational workflow initiatives
  • Obtain the patient’s previous medical records, labs, diagnostic testing, etc. prior to the appointment and upload into EMR
  • Screen patients, update medical history, obtain vitals, and medication list, input into EMR system

· Assist the physician and advanced practice providers with various patient care and administrative tasks

· Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and procedures

· Maintain clean and orderly exam/procedure rooms, common areas, and workspace

· Check exam/procedure rooms daily and restock with supplies as needed

· Complete applications and paperwork for patients including, but not limited to FMLA, discount drug applications, VA paperwork, etc.

· Complete medical records requests

· Coordinate medication changes, refills, etc. w/providers and complete transaction in Escribe

· Scribe for Dr. Hood as needed

· Support providers in the administration of diagnostic testing, i.e. treadmill stress tests

· If trained, complete remote patient monitoring process and protocol

· Answer incoming telephone calls from patients, families, referring offices, hospitals, etc., and forward to the appropriate staff member

· Check for faxed documents and respond and/or file in electronic medical record

· Constantly review daily schedule for cancellations and open appointment slots, call patients on wait list to see if they would like to come in. In the case of last-minute cancellations, call patients already on schedule to see if they can come in sooner.

· Patient schedule should be maximized daily and patients distributed among providers equitably

· Assist in scheduling patient appointments and obtaining insurance pre-authorizations

· Check-in and check-out patients at the front desk

· Assess patient/family level of understanding to enhance effective communication and education

· Provide continuity of care, and professional communication with all team members in a fast-paced work environment

· Talk with referral sources in regard to patients being seen and work emergent patients into the schedule as necessary

· Follow the chain of command when seeking answers to questions, concerns, etc.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
