What You’ll Be Doing
The Medical Assistant supports our Provider(s) in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining clinic standards, compliance, and smooth daily operations. This role combines direct patient care, clinical support, care coordination, and essential compliance responsibilities.
The successful candidate will be able to:
Clinical Responsibilities
- Collect vital signs, height, weight, medical history, and presenting complaints.
Assist Provider(s) with patient care, minor procedures, EKGs, injections, immunizations, and other diagnostics/treatments as qualified.
Perform phlebotomy/venipuncture and assist in the lab as needed.
Administer medications under physician or mid-level direction.
Participate in developing and updating HPI, social history, vitals, assessments, and plans in the EMR.
Communicate with patients and families to provide education, reassurance, and clear instructions.
Conduct basic triage for incoming clinical calls and determine whether a patient requires an in-office visit or telephonic guidance.
Collaborate with the care team to ensure patients receive appropriate counseling, chronic disease education, and follow-up.
Patient Flow & EMR Management
Facilitate patient flow from waiting area to exam rooms to maintain an efficient schedule.
Prepare patient charts including DIs, referrals, preventative screeners, labs, and DMEs.
Accurately update patient demographics, insurance, and contact preferences in the EMR.
Manage incoming/outgoing records from specialists, hospitals, and emergency rooms; index documents appropriately.
Identify health maintenance needs prior to rooming the patient.
Review superbills to verify charges for immunizations, injections, and procedures.
Care Coordination & Scheduling
Schedule patient appointments according to clinic guidelines.
Process referrals, prior authorizations, DMEs, and coordinate specialist appointments.
Process medication refills and communicate with pharmacies as needed.
Track clinic schedule flow throughout the day to keep the team on time.
Compliance, Safety & Quality
Work closely with the Compliance Manager to maintain clinic standards and policies.
Maintain OSHA, HIPAA, and clinic compliance in all operations.
Maintain required data for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program.
Perform autoclave sterilization monitoring and document results.
Disinfect and sterilize patient care areas per daily/weekly cleaning schedules.
Maintain cleaning schedules for biomedical equipment.
Demonstrate knowledge of operating, cleaning, and maintaining clinic equipment.
Date all open medications and assign Beyond Use Dates (BUD) 28 days from opening.
Protect patient rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information.
Inventory & Operations
Manage inventory, expirations, and restocking of medical supplies and medications.
Maintain patient medical records in accordance with clinic policies.
Look for and suggest ways to continuously improve clinic processes and systems.
Participate in staff meetings, training modules, and implementation of workflow changes.
Foster positive working relationships and maintain a professional, team-oriented attitude.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Office Manager.
What We’re Looking For

High School Diploma or GED required

Medical Assistant Certification, strongly preferred

At least 1-2 years recent experience in urgent or primary care setting

Must have a valid driver’s license & reliable transportation

Must have experience in phlebotomy/venipuncture

Ability to communicate effective with Providers and others to resolve issues

Ability to demonstrate reliability and responsiveness to patients, families, and co-workers
