Medical Assistant Apprentice Opportunity

General Summary of Duties:
We are excited to offer an apprenticeship opportunity for the role of Medical Assistant. This position is designed for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience and learn from a healthcare professionals while contributing to our team. Benefits include; gaining valuable hands-on experience as you “Earn and Learn”. Mentorship from experienced professionals and potential for future employment upon successful completion of the apprenticeship. Upon completion of combined coursework and clinical experience, apprentices are eligible to sit for the national certification

Reports directly to Clinical Coordinator.

Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. May have exposure to communicable diseases, biohazard substances, and other conditions common to medical environment
Key Responsibilities: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
  • Maintain eligibility for employment and complete all commitments and obligations.
  • Communicate with trainers, supervisors, mentors and program administrators.
  • The course will emphasize the ethical behavior, therapeutic communication, protecting the privacy of patient information, maintaining a safe environment.
  • Learn and apply necessary skills to function as a vital member of the healthcare team.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops as part of the apprenticeship program.
  • Adhere to course outline, completing all required training competencies and on-line course assignments, maintaining a 70% or higher.
  • Complete 600 hours of on-the-job training within 4 months.
  • Understand the importance of achieving the professional certification within 90 days of completion of the online program.
Apprentices will learn how to:
  • Perform patient intake including vital signs, medical history and medication review.
  • Perform phlebotomy as needed, obtain specimens, and administer medications as directed by the physician.
  • Assist physicians in exam rooms during physical exams or surgical procedures.
  • Review EMR for patients scheduled for appointments the next day.
  • Assist with phone calls, prescription calls, patient education, and patient notification of lab/test results when requested.
  • Assist patients in scheduling preventative services and transitions of care.

Performance Requirements:
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Experience:
  • Strong interest in the medical field.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt.
