Responsibilities

• Review and interpret medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes accurately.
• Prepare, submit, and follow up on insurance claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
• Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility prior to billing.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and coding guidelines to maximize reimbursement.
• Manage accounts receivable by performing medical collections and resolving billing discrepancies promptly.
• Maintain detailed and organized medical records, including documentation of coding decisions and billing activities.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or coding issues as needed for accurate billing.

Experience

• Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology relevant to coding practices.
• Familiarity with ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, as well as DRG classifications.
• Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for claim submission and record management.
• Understanding of medical records management, insurance processes, and collection procedures.
• Ability to interpret complex medical documentation and translate it into accurate codes.
