Medical Billing and Coding Specialist

Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of medical billing procedures, coding systems, and healthcare documentation. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately coding medical records, submitting claims, and ensuring timely reimbursement while maintaining compliance with industry standards. Your expertise will contribute significantly to the efficiency of our billing operations and the overall quality of patient care documentation.

Duties

  • Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes.
  • Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using electronic health record (EHR) and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection practices to maximize revenue recovery.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility to facilitate smooth billing processes.
  • Maintain detailed and organized medical records, ensuring all documentation aligns with coding and billing standards.
  • Stay current with updates in medical terminology, coding guidelines, and healthcare regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures requiring precise coding for accurate billing.
  • Assist in audits by providing detailed reports on coding accuracy and claim submissions.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or related healthcare administrative roles within a clinical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, as well as DRG classifications.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to accurately interpret clinical documentation.
  • Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for billing and record management purposes.
  • Understanding of medical records management and compliance standards within healthcare environments.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies or errors in documentation or coding.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients.
