Responsibilities

• Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes for diagnoses and procedures
• Ensure all billing information aligns with medical documentation, verifying completeness and accuracy before submission
• Submit clean claims electronically using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems to insurance companies and government agencies
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection practices to maximize reimbursement
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations to ensure compliance
• Organize and manage medical records efficiently, ensuring confidentiality and proper documentation standards are upheld
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures that require precise coding for billing purposes

Requirements

• Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting; familiarity with medical office operations is preferred
• Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, as well as DRG classifications for hospital billing
• Proficiency in using EMR/EHR systems for documentation and claim processing
• Solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical records management
• Ability to accurately interpret medical records and translate them into correct billing codes
• Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills to handle multiple claims efficiently
• Knowledge of insurance policies, reimbursement procedures, and medical collection practices
