We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Medical Billing Specialist to join our team on a full-time, remote basis. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the financial health of our organisation, ensuring that our billing processes are handled with the utmost accuracy and efficiency. This position is vital for enabling us to continue our mission of making our patients' final days as comfortable as possible. You will be a key part of a team that supports patients from newborns to over 100 years old, ensuring our vital services are properly funded.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit accurate billing claims to various insurance entities, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurers, both electronically and via paper submissions.
  • Thoroughly review patient billing information for accuracy and completeness, ensuring all necessary documentation is present.
  • Proactively follow up on unpaid or outstanding claims within standard billing cycle timeframes to ensure timely payment.
  • Analyse, investigate, and resolve claim denials, rejections, and other billing discrepancies.
  • Accurately post payments and adjustments to patient accounts and maintain detailed records.
  • Serve as a point of contact for patient billing enquiries, handling all communications with professionalism and compassion.
  • Maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of healthcare billing regulations, compliance standards, and coding practices.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure documentation supports billed services.
  • Uphold strict patient confidentiality and adhere to all data protection regulations.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Medical Billing Specialist or in a similar healthcare administrative role.
  • A strong understanding of medical terminology, billing codes (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and the full revenue cycle management process.
  • Experience with hospice or palliative care billing is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in using medical billing software and the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to high standards of accuracy.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and manage a diverse workload in a remote environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse complex billing issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A compassionate and professional demeanour that aligns with our organisation's core values.

Benefits

  • A competitive hourly rate of $27 - $43 USD, commensurate with experience.
  • The flexibility of a fully remote working arrangement.
  • The opportunity to work in a supportive, mission-driven environment where your contribution directly impacts patient care.
  • A rewarding career that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families.
