Position: Medical Claims Specialist
Location: Thunderbird Wren House, Duluth, MN 55808
Employment Type: Full-time
Compensation: $20/hr
Shift: Monday-Friday, Day Shift

Position Overview:
The Medical Claims Specialist focuses on resolving insurance claim denials by researching denial reasons, gathering necessary documentation, and filing appeals with insurance companies in a timely manner. Must be willing to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure efficient and effective handling of claims.

Our billing situation is unique- though not complex, and as such we would be willing to train the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze denial reasons, insurance policies, medical documentation, and coding to identify potential payment issues.
  • Develop compelling arguments and supporting documentation to overturn denials, working with billing specialists and providers to gather information and resolve denials.
  • Track denial trends to identify recurring denial patterns to implement preventative measures.
  • Communicate with management regarding denial reasons and necessary actions.
  • Maintain accurate records, including all communication with insurance companies.
  • Track the progress of appeals and ensure timely resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Able to identify root causes of denials and develop effective solutions.
  • Experience in a medical billing department with AR accounts follow-up, appeals, and coding knowledge is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of and experience with claims processing and insurance policies is preferred.
  • Able to communicate clearly and professionally, both orally and in writing, with clients, providers, and coworkers.
  • Must have knowledge on the use of office software and equipment along with the ability to effectively use payer websites and portals.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must be free from problematic substance use for at least 2 years.
  • Subject to immunization review and submit proof of required vaccinations.
