Position Summary:
We are an established medical practice seeking an experienced Medical Office Receptionist / Medical Billing Specialist with demonstrated expertise in insurance billing, CPT/ICD-10 coding, and claims management. This is not an entry-level role. The ideal candidate understands medical workflows, insurance requirements, and patient financial communication.
Required Duties
- Greet patients warmly upon arrival, ensuring a positive first impression while managing front desk operations.
- Schedule appointments efficiently using clinic management software such as Epic, Simple Practice, or Athenahealth, coordinating care plans with our provider.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits through insurance portals and perform insurance verification to facilitate smooth billing processes.
- Collect patient information accurately, review documentation for completeness, and update electronic health records (EHR systems).
- Process medical billing claims using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) and ICD (International Classification of Diseases) coding standards, including ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes.
- Manage accounts receivable by following up on unpaid claims and performing medical collections to maximize revenue recovery.
- Maintain confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA regulations while handling sensitive patient data and medical records.
- Answer multi-line phone systems professionally with excellent phone etiquette, directing calls appropriately and assisting patients with inquiries.
- Support administrative tasks such as filing medical records, managing office supplies, and performing data entry with proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer skills.
- Assist with intake procedures for new patients, take patients' vital signs while ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate for seamless service delivery.
Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable):
- Prior medical office experience working in a medical office setting (required).
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Simple Practice,, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks or Eaglesoft is required.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), and medical billing processes is necessary to ensure accurate documentation and reimbursement.
- Experience with insurance verification, denials and appeals procedures for Medicare and other insurance providers enhances efficiency in billing workflows.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to effectively communicate with diverse patient populations; excellent customer service skills are essential for providing outstanding patient care.
- Familiarity with office management tools like Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and multi-line phone systems supports daily operations.
