Location: Remote/Telehealth with Oversight of Florida-Based Services


Position Summary:

The Medical Director serves as the senior psychiatric medical consultant for MAHCS, ensuring regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and clinical oversight of psychiatric providers. This position supports continuity of care for clients receiving psychiatric services and ensures provider protocols and operations comply with applicable Florida statutes and licensing regulations.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight and consultation to psychiatric staff, including Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), and support the Clinical Director in alignment with agency protocols.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure all practitioners providing psychiatric services hold current, active, and unencumbered Florida licenses.
  • Review referral and service agreements that involve psychiatric care to ensure alignment with clinical standards and regulatory expectations.
  • Ensure that all psychiatric practitioners maintain appropriate licensure and credentials based on the level of care provided, in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Maintain familiarity with and assist in upholding statutory requirements under Florida Chapter 456, Chapter 400.9935, and Part II of Chapter 408 as they pertain to psychiatric medical oversight, reporting obligations, and clinic licensure standards.
  • Collaborate with the compliance team to confirm that all electronic medical records (EMRs) are HIPAA-compliant and client information is safeguarded appropriately.
  • Establish and maintain protocols required by the Florida Department of Health and Board of Nursing for APRNs employed by MAHCS.
  • Provide short-term medication coverage or emergency consultation when an ARNP is unavailable (e.g., vacation), with the goal of preventing interruptions in care that may result in clinical instability or crisis for clients.
  • Participate in policy development, chart audits, or quality assurance processes as needed to ensure the psychiatric program adheres to best practices and accreditation standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) with specialization in Psychiatry preferred.
  • Licensure: Active and unencumbered Florida medical license; DEA licensure required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of psychiatric practice with experience supervising APRNs or providing medical leadership in a behavioral health setting.
  • Knowledge/Skills:
    • Strong working knowledge of Florida regulations governing psychiatric services.
    • Understanding of HIPAA and EMR privacy standards.
    • Experience with oversight of telehealth psychiatric models preferred.
    • Excellent communication, decision-making, and leadership skills.
