Medical Receptionist

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors in our healthcare facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills, excellent communication abilities, and a comprehensive understanding of medical office procedures. As a Medical Receptionist, you will be responsible for managing patient interactions, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and maintaining accurate medical records. Your role is vital in ensuring smooth clinic operations and delivering exceptional patient service.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients warmly and professionally, providing excellent customer service at the front desk.
  • Schedule appointments efficiently using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth.
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including Medicare and Medicaid, ensuring accurate billing and collections.
  • Collect and process payments, including medical collections and co-pays, adhering to HIPAA regulations.
  • Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures with attention to detail in documentation review and data entry.
  • Maintain organized medical records and ensure compliance with health information management standards like ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Answer multi-line phone systems with proper phone etiquette, directing calls appropriately and handling inquiries promptly.
  • Assist with medical scheduling, appointment reminders, and follow-up communications to enhance patient experience.
  • Support medical administrative functions such as filing, data entry, and supporting billing processes using software like Dentrix or Eaglesoft.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to facilitate care plans and ensure seamless clinic operations.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting is required; dental clinic experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, eClinicalWorks, or Athenahealth is essential.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and insurance verification processes is highly desirable.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications are necessary for daily tasks.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly while maintaining professionalism.
  • Bilingual abilities are preferred to serve diverse patient populations effectively.
