Duties

  • Greet patients and visitors warmly, providing excellent customer service at the front desk
  • Schedule appointments efficiently using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including Medicare and HIPAA compliance requirements
  • Collect payments and perform medical collections when necessary, ensuring accurate documentation of transactions
  • Manage phone calls using multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette and timely responses
  • Maintain and organize medical records, ensuring confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards
  • Review documentation for accuracy, including CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding, and care plans to support billing processes
  • Assist with intake procedures, patient check-in/out processes, and appointment confirmations
  • Support medical administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and updating patient information in EMR/EHR systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure seamless clinic operations and effective communication

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and medical billing procedures
  • Experience with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix or Eaglesoft is highly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and typing skills for efficient data entry (including 10 key typing)
  • Excellent patient service skills with a friendly demeanor and professional phone etiquette
  • Ability to verify insurance benefits accurately and handle Medicaid or other insurance claims processes
  • Prior clinic or dental office experience is advantageous for understanding healthcare workflows but not required
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and health information management standards
