Medical Scribe - Dr Gardner, Clinic, PRN

Job Summary:

  • Transcribes, proofreads, and edits complex technical and medical reports for a broad range of clinical specialties and departments to document patient care. Accountable for the accurate transcription of patient medical visits.

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Able to transcribe dictated reports and written drafts.
    • Responsible for typing all physician dictation: H&Ps, operative notes, therapeutic procedures, consultations, discharge summaries, etc.
    • Proofreads all transcribed documents for accuracy and completeness; verifies patient information for accuracy and completeness.
    • Transcribed documents are free of terminology, punctuation, grammatical, typographical errors, and misinterpretations.
    • Identifies inconsistencies and, when necessary, seeks clarification from the dictating individual.
    • Formats reports and corrects document changes made by physicians.
    • Prioritizes STAT reports. Delivers immediately upon completion of the report and verification of accuracy/neatness.
    • Copies and distributes documents as required.
    • Maintains a daily log of transcribed reports.
    • Understands medicolegal implications and responsibilities related to the transcription of patient medical records.
    • Utilizes medical dictionaries, the current Physician’s Desk Reference, Hospital Formulary, and other reference materials as needed.
    • Answers the phone professionally and courteously; takes messages; routes calls to appropriate staff members.
    • Performs clerical work as needed.
    • Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments and physicians.
    • Performs other duties as requested.

Professional Requirements:

  • Ensures that appearance and personal conduct are professional at all times.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Wears appropriate clothing for job functions. Wears an ID badge.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, administration, and staff.
  • Represents the organization positively and professionally in the community.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.

Regulatory Requirements:

  • Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) status preferred.
  • Two years of experience as a medical transcriptionist preferred or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
