Medical Scribe – Orthopedics BIDMC (Per-diem)

Performs a wide variety of clinical and administrative activities during patient visits in an outpatient clinical setting. Involves extensive interaction with diverse populations, including patients, medical staff practitioners, and medical center personnel. Assists provider with documentation and coding, as well as patient throughput.

Schedule: Per-diem
Typically 7:00 am–5:00 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays; additional days may occur based on provider needs.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

• Accompanies Physician into the patient examination room in order to transcribe a history and physical exam, and document accurately the Physician's encounter with the patient and others present.
• Lists all proper diagnoses and symptoms, as well as follow-up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the Physician.
• Uses the electronic medical record system (OMR) to queue prescription renewals for review by a licensed provider. As directed by a clinician, enters/scribes orders for tests, services or appointments in OMR. Transcribes patient orders, including laboratory tests, radiology tests, medications, etc.
• Documents any procedures performed by the Physician.

Required Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 0-1 years of related work experience required.
• Experience with Medical Terminology. Recognition of the physical exam process and the ability to record exam details.
• Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

• Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
• Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.
• Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
• Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Physical Nature of the Job:
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.

Pay Range:

$19.00 – $21.00

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
