KEY DUTIES:

The medical transcriptionist is responsible for a variety of administrative support, including patient reception duties, appointment follow up, writing medical reports, attaching medical documents into patients’ charts in EMR, clerical support and data entry to ensure optimal and safe patient care. He/she acts in compliance with the overall departmental protocol, and are in compliance with the hospital and federal regulations, guidelines, and requirements.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with nursing clinic staff and promote excellent customer service, which delivers prompt and efficient response to patients, families, and relatives.
  • Communicate effectively and promote a supportive team approach within the clinic to ensure good working relationship.
  • Support and contribute to the achievement of continuous quality improvement in the delivery patient care.
  • Maintain clinical files and other clinic-related records in accordance with the hospital relevant policies and practices
  • Ensure the day-to-day maintenance of patient medical records; ensure that the patient identification details are correct and up-to-date; maintain patient confidentiality. At all times
  • Ensure medical records, laboratory reports, radiological images, and other patient records are properly completed and secured, but readily available to the physician
  • Provide assistance to all nurses
  • Prepare and update patient charts with ancillary reports and forms from various departments.
  • Evaluate patient charts and ensure compliance to all safety policies and procedures for hospital staff.
  • Screen and appropriately prioritize all phone calls as per the physician’s direction
  • Assist in filling out insurance claim forms as required; assist in preparing and issuing hospital medical certificates where appropriate.
  • Coordinate with various departments and ensure proper services and supplies of unit.
  • Maintain an adequate supply for use within the clinical area; order, receive, check stores, and follow up on the outstanding items or requests for new items and or repair of equipment.
  • To be prepared to cover other ward clerks as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned from time to time
