Department: Merchandising & Planning

Location: Bangalore (Head Office)

Reports To: Head of Retail

Role Overview:

At Banana Club, we don’t just sell clothes — we move trends, create stories, and make sure every store feels fresh and full of energy.

The Merchandise Planner sits at the intersection of data and design — turning numbers into decisions that drive business. From planning monthly buys to optimizing store stock and margins, you’ll ensure that every product that hits the floor has the best chance to sell, fast and full-price.

You’ll work closely with the Buyer, Allocator, Stores and VM team to plan, track, and fine-tune the product mix across our stores.

Key Responsibilities

1. Pre-Season Planning & Forecasting

  • Develop seasonal and monthly sales, stock, and margin plans by category and store cluster.
  • Set up OTB (Open-to-Buy) budgets aligned with business goals.
  • Analyze past season data to identify growth categories, trending styles, and seasonal opportunities.
  • Partner with the Buyer to decide buy quantities and style depth for new season assortments.

2. In-Season Trading & Performance Tracking

  • Review weekly sell-through, STR, and rate of sale (ROS) reports.
  • Identify bestsellers and slow movers — recommend reorders, transfers, or markdowns.
  • Re-forecast sales and stock weekly to ensure healthy stock cover.
  • Work with the Allocator to ensure right product flow across stores and optimal replenishment.

3. Inventory Management & Optimization

  • Track inventory ageing, stock cover, and availability by store and category.
  • Initiate inter-store transfers or consolidations to maximize sell-through and minimize overstock.
  • Ensure smooth flow of stock from warehouse to stores, avoiding stockouts.
  • Monitor core style performance and trigger reorders with the Buyer.

4. Collaboration with Buying, VM & Store Ops

  • Work with the Buyer to finalize seasonal buys and new product introductions.
  • Partner with VM and Store Ops to ensure store displays align with stock availability and commercial priorities.
  • Share performance insights to help VM prioritize focus stories and product zones.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Driven and willing to make an impact on the brand
  • Strong analytical and Excel/Google Sheets proficiency.
  • Understanding of retail KPIs (STR, ROS, Sell-Through, Stock Cover, Margin).
  • Strong coordination and communication across teams.
  • Commercial thinker with an eye for fashion trends and customer demand.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, growth-oriented retail environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate or Postgraduate in Fashion Management, Retail, or Business Analytics.
  • 2–5 years of experience in merchandise planning, category management, or retail analytics.
  • Familiarity with POS/ERP systems (e.g., Logic, Ginesys, SAP, or similar).
  • Knowledge of BI or visualization tools (Excel dashboards, Power BI, etc.) is a plus.

Success Metrics

  • Achieving targeted sell-throughs and stock turns.
  • Maintaining healthy stock cover and balanced inventory.
  • Accurate sales and OTB forecasting.
  • Reduced markdown dependency and higher full-price sell-through.
