Job Summary:
The Merchandiser is responsible for managing the end-to-end merchandising process for shirt orders—from product development and sampling to production follow-up and shipment. The role requires strong coordination with buyers, production, sourcing, and quality teams to ensure timely delivery, competitive costing, and adherence to quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Buyer Communication & Order Management
- Act as the key contact between buyers and the factory for all shirt orders.
- Understand buyer requirements, specifications, and technical details for each style.
- Manage sampling, approvals, and order confirmations.
- Ensure clarity in communication regarding style details, trims, fabric, and delivery timelines.
2. Product Development & Sampling
- Coordinate with the sampling department for proto, fit, size set, and pre-production samples.
- Ensure timely submission and approval of samples from buyers.
- Collaborate with designers and fabric sourcing teams for new fabric and trim developments.
3. Costing & Negotiation
- Prepare cost sheets considering fabric, trims, accessories, and overheads.
- Negotiate with suppliers and vendors to achieve target margins.
- Support management in price negotiations with buyers.
4. Production Follow-up
- Create and monitor Time and Action (T&A) calendars for all orders.
- Coordinate with the production, fabric, and trimming teams to ensure on-time delivery.
- Monitor order progress from fabric in-house to cutting, stitching, finishing, and packing.
- Resolve any production or quality issues in coordination with relevant departments.
5. Material Planning & Coordination
- Ensure timely fabric and trim approvals and in-house arrivals.
- Work closely with sourcing and store teams to manage material flow as per production plans.
- Verify consumption and material requisitions to control cost and wastage.
6. Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all garments meet buyer quality standards and technical specifications.
- Coordinate with quality assurance and inspection teams during pre-final and final inspections.
- Maintain buyer compliance documentation and audit requirements.
7. Documentation & Shipment
- Prepare and verify order documentation, packing lists, and shipment details.
- Follow up with logistics and commercial departments for on-time shipments and document dispatch.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Garment Manufacturing / Fashion Technology / Textile Engineering.
- 5–8 years of experience in merchandising for woven shirts (export or domestic).
- Strong understanding of fabric types, garment construction, costing, and production processes.
- Excellent communication and buyer handling skills.
- Good knowledge of MS Excel, ERP systems, and T&A management tools.
- Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
