Job Summary:
The Metal-Cutting Machines & Tools Sales Engineer is responsible for driving sales growth by identifying customer requirements and delivering tailored solutions in the field of metal-cutting machinery and tooling. The role focuses on supporting ATAD’s customers with the supply of CNC machines, cutting tools, and related technologies, while ensuring optimal performance, efficiency, and value.
The Sales Engineer leads the technical evaluation phase of the sales process, acting as a key technical advisor and product advocate. Working closely with the sales team and suppliers, the role ensures that proposed solutions align with customer applications, production needs, and industry standards.
This position requires the ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, diagnose application challenges, and recommend suitable machining solutions. The Sales Engineer is also responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with customers and suppliers, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction throughout the entire sales cycle—from initial engagement to after-sales support.
Duties & Responsibilities/Deliverables:
- Achieve assigned sales targets and contribute to revenue growth by promoting CNC metal-cutting machines, cutting tools, and related solutions.
- Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within target industries by actively prospecting and establishing relationships with new customers.
- Assess customer machining requirements, review technical drawings/specifications, and recommend suitable machine tools, cutting tools, and process solutions.
- Prepare accurate techno-commercial quotations, ensuring alignment with customer needs, application requirements, and supplier capabilities.
- Manage the full sales cycle, from initial inquiry and technical evaluation to quotation, negotiation, order placement (LPO), and project closure.
- Lead and support the preparation of RFQs/RFPs, prequalification documents, technical proposals, and customer presentations.
- Conduct machine and tooling demonstrations, deliver technical presentations, and clearly communicate value propositions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams and suppliers to ensure proper solution selection, pricing, delivery timelines, and after-sales support.
- Provide application support by identifying machining challenges and recommending optimized cutting parameters, tooling strategies, and productivity improvements.
- Maintain regular follow-ups with customers, track project status, and submit weekly reports on sales activities, pipelines, and forecasts.
- Gather and report market intelligence, including competitor activities, pricing trends, new technologies, and project opportunities.
- Participate in internal sales meetings to review performance, align strategy, and plan upcoming actions with the division leadership.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with customers and suppliers to ensure repeat business and customer satisfaction.
- Ensure timely and professional customer communication, maintaining high standards of accuracy, responsiveness, and service quality.
- Represent ATAD International at industry events, exhibitions, and client meetings to promote products and expand market presence.
- Identify opportunities for product portfolio enhancement and propose new solutions based on market demand and customer feedback.
- Support knowledge sharing within the team through coaching, mentoring, and technical training when required.
- Ensure compliance with ATAD International policies, procedures, and code of conduct, as well as relevant quality and safety standards.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in sales, business development, or application engineering within the metal-cutting, CNC machinery, or industrial tooling sector.
- Solid understanding of machining processes (turning, milling, drilling, grinding) and the practical application of engineering principles in manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated knowledge of CNC machine tools, cutting tools, tooling systems, and related technologies, with the ability to recommend suitable solutions based on customer requirements.
- Experience in interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and production requirements to propose effective machining solutions.
- Proven ability to deliver technical presentations and explain product features, benefits, and applications to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong customer service orientation with the ability to understand customer needs, provide tailored solutions, and build long-term relationships.
- Experience working with international suppliers or OEMs in the machinery/tools sector is an advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Office and CRM systems; familiarity with CAD/CAM software is a plus.
