JOB TITLE: MIG Welder

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
As a MIG Welder, you weld the stringer and hot passes for the long-seam and girth-seams of structural pipe and pressure vessel shells. You will use equipment and tools such as grinders, arc gougers, air chisels, and MIG welding machines. You must have extreme attention to detail, as the work is often delicate, and the welding tools used are dangerously hot. You must strictly follow safety precautions. MIG welding requires that you follow exact weld procedures and processes.

REQUIRED DUTIES:
  • Operate semi-automatic welding equipment to weld stringer and hot passes in long-seams and girth-seams on structural pipe and pressure vessel shells
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., ensure bevel prep cleanliness, verify temperature, verify consumables and parameters)
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead)
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
  • Clean and prep the bevel prior to welding.
  • Maintain work area and keep equipment clean and orderly
  • Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (welding hood, face-shield, gloves, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Proven experience as a welder in industry.
  • Experience using MIG welding equipment and procedures.
  • Prior experience in welding (preferably AWS structural pipe or ASME pressure vessel welding).
  • Current knowledge of the AWS AND ASME standards.
  • Ability to verify use of appropriate consumables.
  • Ability to inspect and prepare the weld joint by cleaning with a grinder.
  • Ability to appropriately adjust the setting on a MIG welding machine, including but not limited to: voltage, amperage, travel speed and gas flow rate.
  • Ability to demonstrate welding in 2G and 3G positions.
  • Ability to conduct visual inspections.
  • Awareness and experience in all welding gear.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Able to stand or crouch for long period of time
  • Able to operate welding equipment at elevated heights.
  • Able to lift up-to 50 pounds
  • Able to work in outdoor climates.
