Asante Gold Corporation is a gold exploration, development and operating company with a high-quality portfolio of projects and mines in Ghana. Asante is currently operating the Bibiani and Chirano Gold Mines and continues with detailed technical studies at its Kubi Gold Project for early production.

All mines and projects are located on the prolific Bibiani and Ashanti Gold Belts. Asante is also exploring its Keyhole, Fahiakoba, and Betenase projects for new discoveries, all adjoining or along strike of major gold mines near the centre of Ghana's Golden Triangle. Asante has an experienced and skilled team of mine finders, builders and operators, with extensive experience in Ghana. Our experienced team members are our most precious asset, having discovered, explored and developed more than 24Moz of gold resources and reserves in Ghana; and having managed Ghana's largest underground mine.

About This Role

Assist Underground Managers in running the day-to-day operations of the Underground mines in both development and production. Develop strategic plans to maximize safety, operational efficiencies and profitability in alignment with the Company's overall objective.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the underground Mine in both development and production, reporting both day- and night shifts to the Underground Managers.
  • Ensure relevant Safety, Mining and other statutory Codes and Regulations remain in full compliance, and actively promote Safety Culture and Hazard Awareness on the Mine.
  • Assist in setting performance targets and measures, monitors and manages overall performance of employees and/or contract workers at the Underground Mine.
  • Involve all Underground Mine employees in the CI Culture to identify areas for improvement and demonstrate progress as well as managing a pipeline of improvement projects/ideas and ensure that the projects are prioritised for implementation.
  • Assist in formulating the annual operating and capital budgets for mine operations, consistent with the Company's established financial guidelines and business planning process.
  • Assist UG Operations Managers to execute strategies that support the growth of mine operations; ensures strategies are concretely linked to the organization's overall strategy.
  • Be the go-to expert on all aspects of Mine Operations, development drilling, production drilling, charging and blasting, bogging, hauling systems and other Underground mining methodologies
  • Assist in determining staffing levels and personnel requirements for Underground Operations.
  • Assist the Underground Operations Manager in various tasks such as Forecasting / SBP / Budgeting, and formulate training strategies for UG Staff.
  • Assist in building the capabilities of the mining team to enhance the mine operation's ability to achieve financial and operating strategies; leverages the talents of the operation, identifies gaps and takes corrective action where necessary.
  • Evaluate operation policies and directives to ensure consistency with safe operating procedures.
  • Establish safety and training standards with assistance from the safety department.

  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor or authorized delegate.

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree of Science in Mining Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Must have a minimum of 8 years working experience in an underground mining environment with 5 years in supervisory role as Shift Supervisor or Mine Foreman level.
  • Must have a statutory certification from the Minerals Commission Inspectorate Division as an Underground Mine Foreman.
  • Working knowledge of underground rock mechanics, mine planning, survey, ventilation requirements and principles.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of the Duty of Care Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, and Mining Inspection Act & Regulations.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of the Duty of Care Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations 2012 L.I. 2182, and Mining Inspection Act & Regulations.
  • Must have thorough understanding of underground mining operations, and solid safety performance at the personal and professional level.
  • Strong computer literacy skills – Advanced Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Must have a Valid driver's license, defensive driving skills with ability to drive underground
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills, with well-developed oral and written communication abilities to interact with diverse teams and stakeholders.
