The Mobile Sexual Assault Program Coordinator will be responsible for the direct crisis intervention and administration of support services to survivors of sexual assault, dating violence or stalking, who have been referred through the criminal justice system, hospital, or shelter system. This role will require weekends, evenings and on-call rotation.
A Better Way provides shelter and services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, a Rape Crisis Center, advocacy, individual trauma-informed counseling, support groups, transitional housing, rapid rehousing, a 24-hour crisis line for persons in any type of crisis, education + referrals, a suicide hotline, chat and text suicide prevention services, teen dating violence and domestic violence prevention programs, and a check-in call service for elderly or disabled homebound persons.
This position is full-time based in Muncie, Indiana.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
- Conduct crisis intervention on the phone and in person with survivors, both residential and non-residential, of sexual assault.
- Assist victims, and secondary victims, through advocacy, casework, emotional support, education, and referral for support services.
- Hold office hours in Muncie and Richmond offices to serve survivors in 8-county service area. Interface with criminal justice system by working cooperatively and education on sexual assault and human trafficking.
- Transport clients and their children as necessary for intakes, crisis work, school, work, court, and other needs. Maintain and distribute safety and security items for survivors and immediate and urgent safety needs.
- Arrange for and attend off-site meetings with clients of A Better Way that are in need of or request mobile advocacy.
- Collect and compile information for statistical reports.
- Conduct prevention and educational presentations and represent ABW through public speaking engagements.
- Engage with outside organizations and programs that assist survivors of sexual assault in order to build A Better Way’s outreach program and increase resources.
- Establish relationships with prosecutors and other services providers throughout our 8-county service area.
- Attend SART meetings locally and in surrounding areas as requested by supervisor.
- Educate victims on legal system and process of prosecution and refer to Crime Victim Compensation Fund.
- Assist the Sexual Assault Program Director with some duties when the Director is unavailable or in need, including but not limited to, supervisory, meeting attendance, anddata gathering.

Supervisory responsibilities: No
Work environment Able to stand and/or walk up to 25% of time. Able to sit up to 75% of the time. Able to view a computer monitor for 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Education and/or Experience
- Three to five years of relevant experience in human services, sexual assault, human trafficking, domestic violence, and supportive services or a Bachelor’s Degree in are lated field is required.
- Driver’s license. good driving record and proof of insurance are required.
- Demonstrated skills in crisis intervention techniques, casework, supportive counseling,and networking with social service agencies are required.
- Knowledge of sexual assault and human trafficking, and the complexity of problemssurrounding the issues is a must.
- Proven ability to work independently with confidence, as well as an integral part of ateam of professionals.
- Attention to detail and organization skills are necessary.
- Must be sensitive, emotionally stable, and able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism when working with topics such as sexual violence, human trafficking, domestic violence, and related.
- Ability to communicate well and engage in public speaking is required.Bilingual skills are a plus.
