We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Mold Designer specializing in Plastic Injection Molding to join our team. Responsibilities
- Design and develop plastic injection molds based on product specifications, part geometry, and manufacturing requirements.
- Create 3D mold designs and 2D detailed drawings using CAD software (e.g., Solid works.
- Collaborate with product design, tooling and production teams to ensure manufacturability and design feasibility.
- Preform mold flow analysis and make necessary design adjustments for quality and cycle-time improvement.
- Specify materials, cooling systems, runner/gate design, and ejection systems.
- Review and validate designs for strength, tolerance, and parting line accuracy.
- Coordinate with mold makers and suppliers to suppliers to support tooling fabrication, testing and debugging.
- Participate in mold trials and provide technical support for troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate design documentation and adhere to company design standards.
Experience Minimum 10 years of experience
- Proven experience in mechanical design specifically related to plastic injection molds within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Strong proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with GD&T standards and ASME codes & standards relevant to mold design and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of system design principles including cooling systems, ejection mechanisms, core/cavity construction, and assembly techniques.
- Experience conducting FEA analyses to evaluate mold performance under various load conditions.
- Ability to interpret technical schematics and create detailed drawings for fabrication purposes.
- Mechanical engineering background with a solid understanding of materials science related to plastics and metals used in mold construction.
- Excellent technical writing skills for preparing comprehensive documentation and reports.
