Mold Prep & Setup Technician

Primary Purpose

Team members in this role will be expected to contribute to maintaining a high-quality work environment at N.E.W. Plastics Corp. This position supports the Food Safety and Quality Management Systems by following the work rules outlined in the Team member Handbook, working cooperatively and effectively with others in the organization, sharing information to enable others to do their jobs, and displaying good customer service to our internal and external customers consistent with our values.

Reduce changeover time by having all necessary tooling prepared in advance for changeovers and to clean, inspect and return all tooling when complete. Completes assigned duties in a timely manner to support and improve the manufacturing process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Design, develop and maintain an efficient computerized inventory plan for all tooling, which facilitates easy review and retrieval.
  • Prep all parts needed for scheduled changeovers in a timely manner including inspecting all parts for proper operating integrity.
  • Clean and inspect all tooling and change parts removed during changeovers for proper integrity and return them to their proper storage location.
  • Install required mold change parts before changeover begins.
  • Be a resource for the Process Techs answering any questions they may have regarding tooling.
  • Determine when molds or tooling needs repair and make determination if work can be done in-house or needs to go to a repair shop.
  • Coordinate tooling that needs to be sent out for repair and maintain records for tracking out-of-service molds, location of molds, and return dates.
  • Identity and record new molds and tooling received using a computer process.
  • Monitor trends in tooling for breakage or excessive wear and repair and replace broken, defective, or malfunctioning components of molds or tooling.
  • Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Work with all other departments in a way that promotes teamwork throughout the organization to achieve company goals.
  • Be a leader in promoting and following all safety and GMP policies and procedures. Look for ways to continually improve the overall plant operations.
  • Fills out necessary paperwork completely and on a timely basis, keeping computerized records current.
  • Perform any other duties or tasks that may be assigned to meet business needs.

Decision Making: Decisions that this role is solely responsible for and only checked periodically.

1. Analyze and determine if current systems are sufficient/or recommend and assist in development of computerized systems for related processes.

2. Analyze and determine when, and type of repair needed to molds/tooling and communicate that to appropriate individuals.

3. Analyze and determine number of cycles for scheduling mold PM work.

Qualification/Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 1. High school diploma or GED required, 2-year technical degree preferred.

2. 1 - 2 years related experience in a machine shop/manufacturing environment, preferably in the plastics industry.

3. Ability to manage and complete multiple tasks.

4. Ability to speak clearly and concisely, in a friendly and professional manner, both in person and over the paging system. Ability to identify problems and draw valid conclusions.

5. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, picture, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to identify problems, root causes and proper solutions in the manufacturing process.

6. Ability to apply concepts such as basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations (Convert measuring units from standard to metric and vice versa.)

7. Ability to read and prepare routine reports and interpret various documents and correspondence.

8. Computer experience with the Internet, Microsoft Windows software, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel and e-mail (Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook).

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
