Motion Graphics Producer

Role Summary:


The Motion Graphics Producer will be responsible for creating motion-first visual storytelling across The National’s digital platforms, producing animated explainers, 2D and 3D graphics, and map-based content.

They will collaborate with editors and producers to develop ideas from concept through to delivery, overseeing storyboarding, animation, and final output to ensure clarity, quality, and strong audience engagement.

The role combines strong editorial judgment with advanced technical expertise in motion design, data visualisation, and 3D animation, while actively leveraging the latest AI tools to enhance storytelling and improve production workflows.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Create visually driven stories with a strong focus on motion graphics, animated explainers, and map-based storytelling.
  • Design and produce high-quality motion content, including 2D and 3D animations, data visualisations and dynamic maps for digital and social platforms.
  • Translate complex topics into clear, engaging visual narratives through animation, pacing and structure.
  • Develop storyboards and visual concepts that prioritise clarity, flow and audience engagement.
  • Work within The National’s visual identity while evolving it through modern, digital-first storytelling approaches.
  • Collaborate closely with editors, producers and journalists to shape stories from concept to final output.
  • Create platform-specific content optimised for social media, with a strong understanding of how audiences consume visual explainers.
  • Leverage the latest AI tools in video production, data visualisation, and map creation to enhance efficiency and storytelling quality.
  • Continuously experiment with new formats, tools and techniques to push the quality and impact of visual journalism.


Role Requirements:


  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and DSLR cameras.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating motion-led storytelling, including animated explainers, map visualisations and data-driven videos.
  • Advanced proficiency in motion and animation tools such as Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro, with experience in 3D software (e.g. Blender, Cinema 4D or similar).
  • Experience using AI tools in creative workflows, including video generation, motion design, and data or map visualisation.
  • Solid understanding of timing, pacing, composition and visual storytelling principles.
  • Experience translating editorial or news content into engaging visual formats.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with data visualisation tools and workflows is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus but not essential.
  • A proactive, creative mindset with a strong interest in developing modern, visually driven journalism formats.
