We are seeking an experienced and adaptable MYP English and Individuals & Societies Teacher to teach across Grades 6-10 in a flexible, startup international school environment.
This role involves teaching MYP Language & Literature (English) and Individuals & Societies (Integrated Humanities) in a diverse and multigrade setting.
The Role
- Teach MYP English (Language & Literature), with a strong focus on engagement with texts, language development, and critical thinking.
- Teach MYP Individuals & Societies through an integrated humanities approach, drawing on disciplines such as history, geography, economics, civics, and related social sciences, rather than teaching them as separate subjects.
- Plan and deliver inquiry based learning aligned with the IB MYP framework.
- Teach multigrade classes, differentiating effectively to meet diverse academic and language needs.
- Support students for whom English is an additional language, working closely with EAL specialists to ensure access to learning and smooth progression into Language & Literature.
- Integrate external curriculum standards (e.g. Common Core for English; AERO for Social Studies) within the IB framework.
- Use assessment to track progress while prioritising student engagement, growth, and individual pathways.
- Seek meaningful links between subjects and contribute to interdisciplinary learning.
- Collaborate with Primary colleagues to ensure strong vertical progression in both English and Individuals & Societies.
- Embrace educational technology and digital tools, including the effective use of AI, to enhance learning.
The Ideal Profile
- Proven experience teaching the IB MYP (essential).
- Confident teaching English and Individuals & Societies as separate subjects.
- Experience or strong comfort across multiple Individuals & Societies disciplines.
- Skilled planner, able to manage complexity across grades, standards, and learner profiles.
- Experience supporting EAL learners within mainstream classrooms.
- Collaborative, flexible, and comfortable working in a developing school environment.
- Additional experience or interest in supporting other areas of school life-such as English as an Additional Language (EAL), library support, SEN provision, or Physical Education-will be highly valued, as responsibilities may evolve in response to timetabling and student needs.
