The Flight Path program brings out of school time STEM experiences to rural, low-income youth. The National WASP WWII Museum is dedicated to honoring the life and legacy of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) and preserving the legacy of Avenger Field on which most of them trained. Their mission is to educate and inspire all current and future generations with the story of the WASP. These female pilots were the first women to fly America’s military aircraft and do so in a way brought honor to our nation and forever changed the role of women in military and civilian aviation. The WASP Museum serves a national population but is launching an education program targeting out-of-school learning opportunities supporting rural students in West Texas. The WASP Museum is addressing the identified poverty-related need through its Flight Path program, an innovative initiative that connects history, innovation, and STEM concepts to provide place-based and virtual learning experiences. The program directly tackles the lack of out-of-school STEM and aviation opportunities for rural students by offering real-world projects that connect to the history of Avenger Field and the WASP legacy. Key components of the Flight Path program include Place-Based STEM Experiences, Mobile Learning Lab, Virtual Learning Lab, Virtual Learning and Digital Access, Educator Professional Development, and Community and Industry Engagement.
