The Graduate Assistant position requires availability to work during the summer and throughout the academic year.
Two Graduate Assistant positions available:
One Assistant will provide support to the Lead Braille Transcriber in the development and production of accessible instructional materials for students with visual impairments. This position assists with the preparation, transcription, formatting, and quality assurance of braille documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with accessibility standards.
One Assistant will provide support to the Lead Illustrator in the development and production of accessible instructional materials for students with visual impairments. This position assists with the preparation, formatting, and quality assurance of tactile graphics to ensure accuracy and compliance with accessibility standards.
The Graduate Assistant collaborates with team members to meet established deadlines, supports workflow coordination, and assists in maintaining organized production processes. Responsibilities may include basic braille transcription (no prior braille experience required), editing and proofreading materials, assisting in the creation and revision of tactile graphics, and communicating with staff to clarify content and formatting needs.
The Graduate Assistant role offers practical experience in accessibility services, braille and tactile graphics production, and inclusive educational practices within a higher education environment.
Enrollment in a graduate program at Purdue University; preference given to candidates in STEM disciplines.
Freehand drawing experience helpful for illustrations.
Knowledge of basic braille letters and numbers helpful, but not required.
