Job Purpose

The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and troubleshooting the organization’s network infrastructure. The role ensures network availability, security, and optimal performance for all users across the system.

Key Responsibilities

A. Network Design & Implementation

  • Design, deploy, and configure LAN, WAN, WLAN, and VPN setups.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, access points, and servers.
  • Implement network segmentation, VLAN configuration, and routing protocols.

B. Network Monitoring & Maintenance

  • Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize efficiency.
  • Conduct regular maintenance, upgrades, and patching for network devices.
  • Maintain high uptime and quick resolution of network outages.

C. Network Security

  • Implement and monitor security measures, including firewalls, encryption, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS).
  • Manage access controls, user authentication, and network permissions.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and apply security best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational IT security policies.

D. Troubleshooting & Technical Support

  • Diagnose and resolve network issues, connectivity problems, and hardware failures.
  • Provide Level 2/3 support for escalated IT tickets.
  • Assist with network-related issues for staff, students, or end-users as required.

E. Server & Systems Support

  • Manage DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and other network services.
  • Support backup systems, data storage, and cloud-based solutions.
  • Maintain system documentation and ensure data recovery mechanisms are functional.

F. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain updated network diagrams, configurations, and inventory records.
  • Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for network operations.
  • Prepare periodic reports on network performance, incidents, and improvements.

G. Collaboration & Project Management

  • Work with IT team members to plan and execute IT projects (upgrades, expansions, migrations).
  • Coordinate with vendors for procurement, support, and maintenance agreements.
  • Provide recommendations for new technologies or infrastructure improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Professional certifications (preferred):
  • CCNA / CCNP
  • CompTIA Network+
  • CEH / Cybersecurity certifications
  • Microsoft or Cisco certifications
