News Reporter

Job Overview

The Salisbury Post is seeking a full-time reporter to join the newsroom. Salisbury is in the heart of Rowan County (NC), a growing community located on the I-85 corridor between Charlotte and Winston-Salem. The Salisbury Post is published five days a week — three print editions and two e-editions.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of delivering timely, accurate and compelling news stories across multiple platforms. Your passion for journalism, combined with excellent communication skills and a keen eye for detail, will help inform and engage our diverse audience. This paid position offers an opportunity to develop your storytelling talents while covering a wide range of topics that matter most to the community.

Duties

• Research, investigate, and report on current events, breaking news, and feature stories with accuracy and clarity
• Write clear, engaging articles following AP style guidelines to ensure consistency and professionalism
• Conduct interviews with news sources, witnesses, experts, and community members to gather firsthand information
• Capture high-quality photographs to complement news stories and enhance visual storytelling
• Manage social media channels by posting updates, engaging audiences, and promoting stories to maximize reach
• Fact-check all information thoroughly before publication to maintain credibility and journalistic integrity

Qualifications

• Proven experience or strong interest in journalism, reporting, or related fields; internship experience is a plus
• Excellent writing skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives under tight deadlines
• Strong understanding of AP style for consistent news writing
• Proficiency in photography, videography, video production, editing, and copy editing tools
• Bilingual abilities are highly desirable to serve diverse communities effectively
• Solid research skills with an eye for detail to verify facts accurately
• Exceptional communication skills for conducting interviews and collaborating with team members
• Knowledge of social media management platforms to distribute content effectively
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
