POSITION SUMMARY


The Nurse Informatics Specialist is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and optimization of nursing informatics projects. This position serves as the primary interface between patient care services and Information Services to ensure multi- and inter-disciplinary project coordination. This position troubleshoots and problem solves with IT analysts within the UW Health system and Epic to optimize Home Health Agency (HHA) utilization of the existing software and to advocate for development of a better product by representing the unique and specific home health agency needs.

The Nurse Informatics Specialist also participates in communications and project planning regarding system implementation and integration of other non-Epic related UW Health Care Direct technical initiatives, projects and systems as needed. This person is knowledgeable about home health and nursing practices, relevant regulatory mandates, and principles of quality/safety improvement. They assist in the development of relevant policy and procedure. This position collaborates with the HHA leadership team on process improvement activities and technology to meet the agency needs and goals.


ESSENTIAL JOB KNOWLEDGE


  • Collaborates with the Home Health Agency leadership to coordinate and conduct process improvement activities.
  • Audits and analyzes patient records and data to ensure quality patient care, appropriateness of services, and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Gathers and compiles data on high-risk, high-volume, and/or problem-prone areas. Identifies trends, makes recommendations.
  • Supports staff and leadership to ensure complete and accurate OASIS documentation prior to OASIS survey submission.
  • Knowledgeable in the use, functionality and workflows of Epic ambulatory and Remote Client HER.
  • Knowledge of clinical workflows to support analysis and process improvement in the use of EHR systems.
  • General knowledge of health care systems from referrals to reimbursement.
  • Support of system upgrades, communications and general IS and EHR troubleshooting skills and problem solving.
  • Ability to think analytically and problem solve creatively.
  • Successfully completes initial and ongoing organizational and department education, training, and competency requirements.
    • Infection Control: Understands, demonstrates, and follows organizational infection control guidelines (CDIC).
    • Quality: Focuses on improving processes and champions efficiency in daily work activities.
    • Safety: Promotes a culture of safety by taking accountability for individual actions, including but not limited to, promptly reporting errors or near misses via the organization’s occurrence reporting system and participating in developing improved safety processes, as appropriate. (ADM015, ADM016, OPS044, Mission Statement).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


JOB REQUIREMENTS


Licenses:


  • State of Wisconsin Professional licensure for Registered Nurse required.


Education:


  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field required.


Experience:


  • A minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in an electronic health records (EHR) technical role preferred.
  • Experience/strong knowledge base in clinical use and support of EHR systems is required.
  • Experience and knowledge of EPIC/remote client preferred.
  • Familiarity with healthcare reporting requirements preferred.
  • Project management of EHR or other IT initiatives preferred.


Miscellaneous:


  • Off hours may be required to support the EHR system and upgrades.
  • Critical/analytical thinking.
  • Strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Project management skills and experience with process mapping.
  • Hold recommendation EHR certifications.
  • Experience with providing support, training, and education to healthcare professionals.
  • Certification in OASIS administration preferred.
