The Nurse Practitioner is accountable to facilitate a quality hospital experience and outcome for patients within a cost-effective time frame. Under the general supervision of the Medical Director, and in cooperation with the Director, Diagnostic Imaging, and Diagnostic Imaging Manager, is responsible for coordinating patient care activities for select at-risk individuals with clinically significant cancers.
The Nurse Practitioner at the Breast Imaging Center facilitates the experience and outcomes for patients on the continuum from screening to diagnosis to breast cancer treatment. Acts as an educator, consultant, and liaison to healthcare providers caring for the patients across the care continuum.

Demonstrates a fundamental grounding in nursing theory and practice with mastery of knowledge within a defined content area.
Manages a caseload of patients with breast health care needs in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care over time and across healthcare settings.
Provides leadership in the development, validation, implementation, and evaluation of standards, policies, procedures, and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model.
Oversees care coordination in acute, home care, and ambulatory care settings as feasible. Effectively communicates with referring providers and the health care team at the breast imaging center to provide patients with patient-centered and evidence-based care.
Assists the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support, education, and encouragement.
Demonstrates advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of family dynamics.
Provides direct care to patients in acute care, ambulatory care, and home care settings. This includes providing patients breast cancer risk assessment, educating patients on imaging results, providing pre- and post-procedure education and wound care, assisting with procedures, compassionately delivering biopsy results, and efficiently making referrals for treatment.
Assists in assuring proper compliance with outside regulatory agencies and assists in preparation and maintaining necessary data collection for regulatory certifications for the center.
Performs advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Medical Director.
Provides expert consultation for clinical issues promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee.
Participates in the education, clinical research, and mentoring of healthcare providers.
Facilitates patient/family education in area of expertise.
Annually completes mandatory safety infection control, BLS, and ACLS/PALS.
Prescriptive privileges per licensure.
