General Duties of Nursing Staff
- Patient Care
- Assessing patients’ physical and emotional needs.
- Providing daily care (hygiene, feeding, mobility assistance).
- Monitoring vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration).
- Administering prescribed medications and treatments.
- Assisting in procedures and wound care.
- Ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Clinical Responsibilities
- Maintaining patient records and documentation accurately.
- Observing changes in patient conditions and reporting to doctors.
- Preparing patients for diagnostic tests, surgery, or examinations.
- Collecting specimens (blood, urine, stool, sputum).
- Inserting IV lines, catheters, or other medical devices (for qualified nurses).
- Administrative Duties
- Maintaining ward/department cleanliness and infection control.
- Supervising nursing aides and support staff.
- Coordinating with doctors and other healthcare professionals.
- Managing inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
- Updating and maintaining patient charts.
- Educational Role
- Teaching patients and families about disease management, diet, and lifestyle changes.
- Training junior nurses, students, or healthcare assistants.
- Participating in workshops, continuous professional development, and skill updates.
- Ethical and Legal Responsibilities
- Maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Following hospital policies, protocols, and nursing ethics.
- Providing care without discrimination.
- Reporting incidents or hazards promptly.
- Help patients with bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility.
- Record vital signs.
- Assist with bed-making and maintaining hygiene.
- Provide emotional support and companionship.
